SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position supports key projects, programs, and initiatives within TCOG’s Economic Development program, with primary responsibilities including coordinating implementation of plans and projects, preparing written materials and reports, and providing technical and administrative support to the department. This role involves complex professional work requiring strong analytical, planning, and communication skills.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to: Economic Development Specialist
- Directs: May direct interns assigned to programs or projects
- Other: Collaborate with COG staff; federal, state, and local agencies and officials; COG Governing Body; Executive Director; and the general public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following performance measures:
- Coordinates, plans, and evaluates projects related to economic development.
- Develops, collects, organizes, analyzes, and/or prepares materials to disseminate program information throughout the region. Coordinates communication development and dissemination through coordination with management and stakeholders. Coordinates project activities with and gathers feedback from internal stakeholders, other agencies, governmental jurisdictions, community members and private sector partners. Compiles and distributes project information, project status reports, and project budget expenditures.
- Develops criteria for evaluating programs, proposals, and other pertinent information related to project assignments. May initiate projects, obtain authorization and commitment, and demonstrate business need and project feasibility.
- Works in conjunction with the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support a locally based, regionally driven economic development planning process that leverages the involvement of the public, private and non-profit sectors to establish a strategic blueprint for regional collaboration and success.
- Assists and provides technical assistance local governments agencies, school districts, higher education organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and other regional organizations in the development, writing, researching, and review of grant applications to fund economic development projects for the region.
- Communicates with regional, federal, state, local governments agencies, school districts, higher education organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and other regional organizations to ensure public outreach of economic development information and resources; makes presentations; drafts reports; creates funding guides.
- Provides technical assistance to the region’s economic development organizations, municipalities, and counties in their efforts to advance economic projects.
- Performs an array of technical, training, research, planning, policy, and administrative activities in support of economic development.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

- Strong communication skills to articulate persuasively and clearly about the division’s mission, value and initiatives.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, public affairs, finance, business or a related field plus at least 3 years of experience in economic or community development.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate driver’s license or available alternative means of transportation.
WAGE RANGE
$21.88/hour – $34.16/hour 40 hours/week Non-exempt
