Waste-fired power plant with multiple purposes: Copenhagen’s state of the art plant sets new standards for environmental performance, energy production and waste treatment. B&W Vølund is providing state-of-the art technology for the new plant. Copenhill (Amager Bakke) features an artificial ski slope inspired by the ski slopes in the Alps. Innovative technology and architecture integrate to form a future in which waste-to-energy plants are welcomed in any backyard.

This is how efficient the technology of the Copenhill (ARC’s Amager Bakke) plant is:
400,000 tons of waste a year result in:

– 99% energy efficiency.
– District heating for 160,000 households.
– Electricity for 62,500 households.
– 100 million litres of spare water recovered through flue gas condensation.
– 90% reuse of metals from waste amounting to 10,000 tonnes of metal a year.
– 100,000 tonnes of bottom ash reused as road material which saves large amounts of gravel.

More information about Copenhill waste-fired power plant and ski slope:

– The plant will be completed in 2017.
– Technology by Babcock & Wilcox Vølund
– Architect design by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, Copenhagen

Voted Monocle’s most liveable city three times, Copenhagen is known for its excellent work-life balance and streamlined, digitised public services.

Over the last few years, a number of innovations have either been developed or embraced by Greater Copenhagen, and there are more in the pipeline. Many of these innovations mean that Copenhageners can enjoy more of their free time whilst taking the environment into consideration.
